Why Pilates?

Last time I said I would tell you about how much I love pilates. So here we are again!

I started doing pilates in college for a quick, but energizing whole body work out. I’ve always felt that it gives me the quickest results, probably because I stick to it better than other work-outs I’ve tried.

So without further ado, let me share my Top 6 reasons I love pilates:

#1) FREE, yep I said FREE, home workout! Anyone that knows me, knows I love a bargain!

#2) No equipment needed! Simple enough, right?

#3) There are about a bazillion different workouts on youtube (no need for those repetitive workouts!) and I actually enjoy picking a different one every single time so that I don’t know what’s coming. Definitely makes it challenging and most importantly, WORTH IT!

#4) Pilates can totally be done before bed, it doesn’t leave my energy levels feeling like I can run a marathon (like some intense workouts) and I am able to go to sleep.

#5) Great instructors make it really efficient. Throughout most videos, they’ll tell you how to breath, remind you to elongate your muscles, and also how keep your belly pulled in. This fits perfectly into an everyday busy lifestyle to use from day to day!

#6) IT'S NOT CARDIO! If you know me, you know that I continually tell my patients to challenge their muscles. Yes, getting 10,000 steps a day is really important, and not sitting too much is really important, but when is the last time you challenged your muscles?!?

Now I have a challenge for you!!

Giving Back

Today, I wanted to share with you all the story of a close friend to the Remedy Health family. Kelli Simpson, battled cancer at an early age of 5 - only three days before she was supposed to start kindergarten! This year marks 20 years of being cancer free!

Kellie considers herself one of the lucky ones. Her mother identified that there was a problem quickly, and the doctors treated it fast. She only had to live in the hospital for one month, but the treatment continued for the next 2 and a half years. Thankfully, Kelli never relapsed, but had many scary moments and hospital and clinic visits throughout those years. She had to watch as many of her close friends did relapse. She described,

It was terrifying going to a 1 year cancer free party, and hearing the news of friends relapsing just a week before!
— Kelli Simpson

As you can imagine, this completely turned Kellie’s world upside down! She and her family were blessed to have had wonderful doctors, nurses and caregivers through Children's Hospital. They were also extremely blessed to have the knowledge, support and research of the Leukemia Society

Please visit the Man & Woman of the Year website to read more information about their efforts in the fight against cancer, and see previous winners!

With this story of successful treatment, she has opted to become a candidate for Woman of the Year with the Leukemia Society during this year’s annual fundraiser.

Her goal is to help fund the continuing valuable work of this organization by raising money, while attempting to win the fundraising contest. All the funds will go to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and Kellie’s campaign. Every dollar raised counts as one vote!

Doug and Kelli, along with Remedy Health, PC are donating a basket for the Gala that includes a skin revitalization package valued at $1695. This includes:
